On Tuesday, September 1st, 80 countries and representatives of the world’s principal religions met on the stage of the Expo 2015 Milano for the first time to bless the food as nutrition for the soul under the slogan “Food for Spirit”.
The event was a symbolic act of peace and dialogue and the first time that so many different religions were willing to perform together a blessing of food from all over the world, as well as the first time that such an event took place at an Expo. The event culminated in the signing of the Milan Charter and the collective blessing of food where each religion used its own formulas and traditions. This was a deeply meaningful event for many people, given the uniqueness of the setting and urgency of the topic of coexistence, tolerance and dialogue between religions.
Food and religious harmony are two of the main themes promoted by the artistic installation of the Mill inside our pavilion, thus Albania decided to participate by bringing Bread as the food that is considered the staple in most civilizations, having literary, cultural, and religious significance. Almost every society in the world eats Bread in some form and wheat is considered "the quintessential nutritional plant." Wheat is milled into white flour and the later is "sacrificed" to become Bread which is a symbol of new life, the daily bread as food for the soul!
